Hello everyone, My name is Kirsty and I'm based in the UK. Here on my channel you will find a mix of content, with a focus mainly on how to get the best out of your wardrobe, stop buying things that don't bring you value and make your money work better for you.
In 2020, I started a No Buy Year which completely transformed the way in which I shop and think about money.
Over the last few years I've been saving money to fulfil a goal of purchasing a home - something I finally managed in 2021, despite the insane market.
I hope to use this channel to share with you things that have helped me in the hope they can help you too.
Please Note - email is strictly business enquiries only. NO I can edit your videos, improve your website & SEO, unsolicited mail & associated spam please. I am also not able to answer individual queries regarding money or otherwise, although I do try to answer as many questions as possible in the comments section of any video.

I just found you and I love your content! The way you share your experience is so truethful!
I’ve learned from this video that I’ve been mispronouncing it for years
Buy nothing and further damage the world economy. You buy nothing and if everyone does that millions of people around the world will lose their jobs, lose their income and starve, even in the rich countries. Soon the zombie apocalypse gets you in a boomerang fashion. You lose your job, etc.
think bigger
what?
@@KirstyKirby think bigger
@@terrysummers9424 repeating the exact same words doesn't make it clearer what you are going on about
@@KirstyKirby ah ok
@@terrysummers9424 ha ha ha - keep on being a bit odd and purposely missing the point Terry! You're obviously enjoying yourself and glad I could help! Best Wishes.
Great video ❤
Thank you for watching!
Can I mix it with vitamin e oil
Ok, well I was definitely calling it jojoba oil, not hohoba oil lol😂
I was wondering what u did for food, feminine products, gas in your car and prescriptions..unless u weren’t eating it’s impossible to have a “no spend” year..videos a little deceiving saying u had a no spend year..I live this way every year of my life, lol
I find it really odd how many overseas viewers ask questions about ‘feminine products’. It’s not a cost that would be at the forefront of my mind. Unless I had a chronic illness or condition, most people in the U.K. in my age group wouldn’t be paying for prescriptions in a normal year - I haven’t bought medication for well over 5 years. Thankfully I’ve been blessed with good health thus far so no need for medicine. As for food I covered this in the first minute or so of the video. Did you watch at all or just write of your dissatisfaction at the video title before listening to the premise of a no buy year? A ‘no spend’ or ‘no buy’ year isn’t something I made up, it’s a concept that has been around for some time with multiple videos from other creators predating mine. No deception involved in any way.
@@KirstyKirby😂😂
@@Shopgirl1 glad you’re amused. I found I laughed a lot at your original comment too, especially the weird focus on my menstrual habits so we’ve both benefited! 🤣
@@KirstyKirbydon’t know why you’d think it odd that someone would ask about feminine products as if you’re female that is something you have to have unless you’ve gone through menopause or pregnant or had a hysterectomy..thanks for the laugh
@@Shopgirl1 it’s odd because it’s not a major cost for most people. In the western world in particular it’s rather low down on most peoples outgoings. I find it interesting that that’s where your mind went to first. It’s a shame you didn’t watch the video as all of this was covered in about the first minute. Have a good day. Best wishes.
Really useful that find trends ever to expensive or boreding or both
I live in an area that is called the Bible belt.. I go to a different church every week..don't need a big "church" wardrobe..no one sees me wearing the same outfit.lol
I wanna do a nobuy for the rest of 2024, im not sure i will make it but i really hope so! I did do a nobuy month last year but a month is a lot easier than half a year! It's just so easy to do impulse purchases! In just the past few days I saw like 3 things I kinda wanted to buy but didnt need at all, luckily i didnt buy them, but ive bought so many other things in the past few weeks... its crazy! There are still things I want to buy, but i hope i can save it for later... Rules: - I can still buy things I need, and I can go out to eat with friends and family - I can still buy skincare products and gifts for others - I cannot buy more clothes, apps, souvenirs for myself, and other unnecessary things Wish me luck :)
I like the scent. Kind of maple scent w/ fenugreek
Did you get rid of your car?
Hi, Thank you so much for your video! I have questions: Is it safe to keep the oil on our face when we sleep? (I tried to understand the whole video but I don't speak english very well, I'm still learning sorry for the bad grammar by the way ;;') Oh and how old are you and for how many time did use that oil? (It's okay if you don't want to answer me, in any way, thank you again for you video!! Have a good day♥)
❤ I just ran across your channel and I just love the message and I'm going to give it a try
Can i add a few drops of jojoba oil to my scalp without washing it of
How can you fast for a year?
🙄🤣
Awesome video!
Wonderful video! Frugality is so needed to get through the down times which seem to keep coming in like waves at the beach!
Kissing in the videos is creepy - were not all lezbo. You will be reported for inappropriate content if u continue
What on earth are you on about?
Great video 👍
I had savings and I did say “up yours” and walked. Now I work part time for 1/2 the pay. But am way happier
Savings most definitely gives you choices. Not long ago I walked from a lower paid job that I thought might make me happier, but was the cause of other unhappiness due to the numbers simply not working with cost of living rises. The hours meant applying for other jobs and attending interviews was almost impossible, so I left, focussed all my time on getting a new job which I now really like and the numbers work much better for me - my point being it's just great to have options and saving gives you just that :) I'm so pleased to read you are happier now
2 minutes in You didn't say that in the beginning. You said no. By year, you didn't say no. By just these exceptions, you didn't say that in the beginning
What? Said no what
Yeah. OK. So you didn't buy FOOD to eat? So you starved and didn't eat or you STOLE FOOD? If you didn't buy anything, did you pay your rent. Or are you married. Cause if you're married, that doesn't count because you, you would need to buy something you would need to buy water. You would need to buy something if you live alone and you don't have any family, you don't have anyone to depend on I guarantee you. You have to buy something if you're a woman and you're on your period you gotta go buy pads or tampons unless you stole them or someone just gave them to you and who gives tampons to people nobody. Nobody gives tampons for free. They give homeless people food, but if you're bleeding and you're homeless. Oh well, don't tell me that you didn't buy anything. It's a bunch of bullcock
I didn’t make up the concept of a no buy year. There are tons of videos prior to mine outlining what it is. Yes I bought food. I make this very clear. No I’m not married. It would be a very strange video to say I didn’t buy things because I’m a completely kept woman. Why are you so obsessed with periods? This is your second comment talking about menstrual pads. Why are you so angry? It’s just a UA-cam video. Treat yourself to a nice walk, maybe some ice cream and a lie down.
I’m noise sensitive and invested in Bose quiet comfort noise cancelling headphones when I don’t want to hear noise of all kinds. Works for me
I have the very same noise cancelling headphones. None of them will cancel impact noise from booming base music.
@@KirstyKirbyI guess it depends how close that noise is. I am usually listening to some music or tv on headphones when neighbours crank it up.
@@Aneedanothaone I don’t think any headphones will get rid of impact noise from the base of dance music or the impact of thundering feet I’m afraid. I think we perhaps have different types of neighbours. I appreciate your suggestion but I promise I’m not the sort of person to moan about something and not try to rectify / implement management strategies. Not sure where you are in the world, but there’s pretty much nothing you can do about inconsiderate neighbours here, no neighbourhood schemes or committees. Moving because of crap neighbours isn’t that uncommon, especially as if you make a complaint to any authority you have to disclose this to any future buyer (which of course would mean no one except maybe a developer would buy)
@@KirstyKirbyI’m in New Zealand and we have noise control rules and we can complain anonymously anytime of day if the noise is disturbing our peace and enjoyment. 3rd call involves police and they confiscate the source of the noise.
@@Aneedanothaone ah I see. You can complain to the council here about noise but they only do something about noise between 11pm and 6am. Anything outside of that they don’t really do anything, plus you still have to declare this if you want to sell your home, if you don’t you can be sued. There’s lots of forums from people talking in the U.K. that they just don’t bother complaining as some people can’t be reasoned with, easier to just move. Unfortunately there’s quite a lot of very inconsiderate entitled people.
Thank you! I really needed this! I been spending my free time watching reviews on makeup products, clothes, bags etc which I barely even managed to use all of them. I feel like coming across your video made me more determined and to really think about what I need vs wants! I can't agree more with you, I had an ig account whereby I followed all my local clothing apparels during covid period and was always so tempted by it, spending more than what I used to. I guess I'll unfollow them all for better finances and saving plans. Thank you so much!
When we start use this oil
The INTERNET is making us all: POOR!!!When my computer was hacked, I didn't connect for 2 years, and I was "saving" 3,000 euros!!! After that, my "box" space is full of boxes from all my purchases, and my 3,000 became 1,000!!! I had a drastic move, I gave my debit card to my X , and is now saving "1,000" a month, leading this to a probable house loan!!!!I'm so proud of myself now, being able to say "NO" to expenses!!!
like it gets better n better
But I put it on roots . It helps with dandruff
I have drastically reduced my spending on some items by doing a major declutter and reorganisation. I went through my shoes and clothes, donated or dumped what didnt fit or what had come to the end and put everything back in order in the wardrobe. I was so shocked at how much i had. If i literally wore everything for a day, i wouldn't run out for nearly 2 months! By having everything, even my socks in order i know at a glance what i have and what i use most. I am going to avoid buying more of these untill i have reduced them down to a reasonable amount. Having toiletries etc in order means that when i shop i can picture their drawer/shelf when i shop and remember that i have enough and dont overbuy.
Hi Elaine, I can relate to your comment. I’ve done other content in relation to decluttering and it’s impact on my spending habits 😊
I got rid of my cat Add up what you pay a year on food and cat litter and especially vet bills
so no food for you for a year?
So you didn’t watch the video 🤣
Good job...
Is neem the same and tamanu???
No..Neem oil frm Neem plant
I’ve started using it day and night as a moisturizer. It does wonders for me🥳! Hooked on to it.
people i am surprised how far a bar of soap goes in the shower...
Theres millions of people around the world who go without for a year some times longer. Its called being poor.
And there’s millions of people who waste money. Perhaps if they didn’t they would have more to donate to the poor.
Define ‘nothing’
I did. In the video 🤷♀️
day 14 of 31 of my Buy Nothing Month 🎉
🥳
How can I apply this method in my situation? I have to kids 3 and 1/12, I’ll not buy anything for myself but how about kids?
Hi there, everyone's situation is unique and therefore most people make their own 'rules' when it comes to a no buy. Growing children need clothes for example, but perhaps lower cost activities, or free activities could be prioritised. There's quite a few people in the comments who have families and undertaken 'no buys' that work for them, perhaps you might find some inspiration there?
Would be nice if my spouce also would participate... God damt materialism, trends, consumption etc.
Dear Kirsty, THANKS A LOT for this video! It would be wonderful, if more people would consume so smart like you do. I am really impressed. Please post more of your experiences here.
Can tamanu oil be used under the eye?
I did the same thing as you, but I did it for retirement. I felt I could go for a house or retirement but not both so I picked retirement. The last time I went to a sit down restaurant was 1996, I have lived in the same one bedroom apartment since 1993 and only buy new clothes when they are falling apart. March 1, 2024 I finally retired 2 months before I turn 60. So these frugal ideas work great as long as you stick with them.
No buy this what it's like being a father and husband.
my dad went into hospital some years ago and i had to take changes of clothes for him. i discovered his underwear were full of holes 🙄. i had to chuck them out as they were grubby beyond repair 🤣. i knew dad was always stressing out my extravagance, or being ocd about every drop of water used in the kitchen! recently, my dad needed help with his finances and i was totally shocked at his savings! despite his meagre income, he had managed to save a decent pot through years of penny pinching! i guess dad’s attitude was because he couldn’t control his income, then he would control his expenses.
Dog love you for putting up with the shite comments here. I just did the same for a Frugal February challenge - the goal for our group: no extras. I spent zero money an anything except food, dog food and medications (as needed for one), cleaning products resupply (as needed, no extras), rent, car payment, internet (for my WFH job), cellphone, and utilities. I have an EV so no gas/petrol costs. I saved over $500 in just this one month. I want to retire in March 2035, so I am psyched now to keep this going. TY for sharing your story.
The internet is insane for sure. Thankfully the horrid comments dont really bother me any more, in fact I feel sorry for people who are so unhappy they write nasty things or see doing so as some form of entertainment - what a horrible life that must be. Its amazing how much can be saved when you put your mind to it, I dont live this way 365 days of the year but if I do need to save I utilise no buys or low spends to help me reach my goals faster.
I have cats..they need to eat.. and i need my sodas..and snacks.
I have dogs. I didn’t starve them. If you want to buy snacks that’s great, I’m not telling you or anyone else to do this.
@@KirstyKirby testy..aren't u..
@@lc-il6wr 🤣🤣🤣 No. I just replied, not remotely ‘testy’ 😂
@@KirstyKirby yes ma'am you did..if u didn't want people to do this why post?
@@lc-il6wr I was sharing my experience, people can chose to do whatever they like afterwards. Just like you choose to not do this because you wouldn’t want to live without soda and snacks, and that’s absolutely fine. I don’t live like this permanently either. Some will want to give it a go and that’s great too.
well put
